Personal Statement

When I was a little girl, I enjoyed playing number games with my sister. I thought them interesting. Later as I went to school, I liked studying math. In particular, solving the logical problems enabled me to sort out evidences and find appropriate solutions, and it really delighted me. Even at that time, I had made up my mind to select a career that was related to numbers when I grew up. As I grew up gradually, I learnt from some TV programs that being an excellent accountant was amazing. In addition to being able to deal with numbers, an accountant helped in discovering corporate problems and risks by tracing the financial statements and other relevant data. I admired them so much that I decided to become a professional accountant in the future.

In order to fulfill my dream, I worked hard in my studies and succeeded in graduating from the senior high school with satisfactory scores, especially in math. Then I managed to attend the Foundation course in INTO Manchester. During this program, I have made good efforts to improve my academic performance. Besides, I have become more and more interested in finance and accounting. Up till now, I have kept watching finance programs every day. On the one hand, I am benefited from the financial analysis illustrated by experts. On the other hand, I can make good use of my knowledge to analyze the financial market on my own.

Besides, I have tried my best to improve my practical skills. For instance, I worked in the father’s company during the last summer holiday. At first, I just followed my father and observed how he coped with his business and got along with his subordinates. However, I found it inadequate and then applied to work as a part-time bookkeeper in the company. Every day, I double checked my work carefully and succeeded in making no errors. Even the full-time bookkeeper praised me for my carefulness. In addition to finishing everything the full-time bookkeeper assigned, such as paying the bill, honoring the cheque, account checking, and so on, I also learnt from the full-time accountant and took notes. Even now I reflect on my notes frequently and I have become quite familiar with the bookkeeper’s work and the accountant’s work as well. Aspiring to become more competitive, I have also learnt something about investment, stocks and financial management from my sister. All in all, I have engaged in various fields to broaden my mind.

As an outgoing girl, I also love running. I have won several awards at school as a short distance runner. What’s more, I like holding some running games with my friends. Besides, I also enjoy listening to the music and playing the piano on my own. In my opinion, playing the piano enables me to calm down and enjoy my inner peace. After all, music helps relaxation. At my leisure time, I am fond of dancing, reading and learning something new. Recently, I have focused on learning Japanese and Korean. Though it is tough to learn the grammar rules and remember new words, it is so delightful to witness my improvement day by day. In return, the various skills I learn enrich my experiences.

Given my interest and experiences in finance and accounting, I am ready for the finance and accounting courses at university. I hope that I will be given the chance to take up the upcoming challenges. If I am enrolled, I promise that I will spare no effort to perform well academically and put everything I learn into real practice. I believe that my determination and persistence will contribute to my dream as an excellent accountant in one of the four big accounting firms.
