句式的使用上也应多下功夫

国内论文：辞藻华丽=文笔好

国外论文：表达清晰明确是关键

特别在较为正式的学术Essay中

短句在表达上天然占优势

那使用方面有哪些小技巧呢？

01拆分很复杂的长句

有些复杂长句往往可以拆分成两个至三个较短的句子，使文章变得更易理解。

比如：

Long sentences are often problematic even when they make sense since they don’t give the reader enough time to process what they say.

拆分后：

Long sentences are often problematic. Even when they make sense, they don’t give the reader enough time to process what they say.

与其用一句长达23个英语单词的句子来伤脑筋

现在的两个短句是不是更好理解呢？

02减少重复的单词

有些语言能力差的同学，最犯愁的就是Essay的字数，总认为这样可以尽快凑够字数，却不知那些重复的单词并没有必要，反而让读者感觉很啰嗦，影响论文质量。

例如，during the time that，其实用while代替即可；还有twelve noon，都表示中午12点，用noon代替即可。

同样，在以下句子中：

He was so weak that he couldn’t even stand up.

这个句子完全可以用更为简洁清晰的方式来表述：

He was too weak to stand up.

03避免无意义的废话

有些词语的作用只是拉长句子凑字数，这样的情况在日常交流中问题不大，但学术写作中还是要避免。最常见的废话包括“In my opinion”“In this essay”  或 “As a matter of fact”等。

例如，In this essay, I want to write about the different opinions that different people hold about demolishing old buildings in urban areas.
去掉赘余词汇，其实要表达的意思就是：People hold different opinions about demolishing old buildings in urban areas.

你的读者当然知道你的文章代表了你的观点，没有必要特意强调哦！

04注意被动语态

被动语态是是动词的一种形式，用以说明主语与谓语动词之间的关系。使用被动语态可以增强学术写作的客观性，有时也会使句子变得过于复杂，被动语态的使用需掌握好一个度。

例如：

使用被动语态：

The telephone was invented by Bell in 1876.

使用主动语态：

Bell invented the telephone in 1876.

主动语态更显句子简洁、清晰。
